April 18 - Remembering Storm Thorgerson, who died at the age of 69 one year ago today.

"Thorgerson’s death is a reminder of a larger transition in popular music: the fact that the visual accompaniment has changed drastically," wrote Ben Greenman in New Yorker. The reasons are simple: the compact disc had shrunk the canvas to one quarter of the LP’s size, MP3 cover art is typically never larger than an iPhone screen while the music is playing and otherwise it is thumbnail-sized, and online sales favors singles over albums. As a result, covers now tend to be little more than a photo of the artist’s face.
